PPG Pilot Jim Neubert suffered a prop strike to his right arm and shoulder during the 2009 Indy Air Hogs while starting his paramotor. Here is his account of the incident:

I had just blown a launch and was really hot so before resetting for my next
attempt, I decided to take the unit off and rest a minute and get some water. I
reset my wing and took my throttle in my left land (I fly with the throttle in
my right hand) and held my frame with that same hand while I pulled the starter
rope with my right hand. The throttle lever itself was in a horizontal position.
The lever was above my fingers so that if the engine started it would not go to
full throttle, rather just idle. My thumb was resting just about on the kill
switch. This is the position I have always started the engine in. A photo would
help here but I don’t have access to my camera or throttle cable. It is a
standard Blackhawk throttle. I checked to make sure the cable was not locked
open in any way as I always do. I then pulled the starter cord a couple of
times. The engine did not start but I could tell it “wanted to”. So I rotated
the throttle in my hand so that I could reach the lever with a finger and give
it a little gas. I had done this before.

Chris Johnson and I had a conversation about an hour before this incident about
how he had read about how we do things unsafe but we get away with it and we
start to think it is safe.

I cranked a few times more before the engine started. It started and was still
kind of loping along so I gave it a little more throttle. At that point the
motor started running at a higher RPM than I anticipated that amount of throttle
would produce. The lever became wedged by the thrust against the top frame bar
and of course it continued to full throttle.

I tried to hit the kill switch and thought that I hit it but evidently not.
While continuing to hold the throttle, the cage started rotating around to my
right. I think I had my right hand on the top horizontal bar of my frame by this
point. My upper right arm was against the net and the force pushed my arm and
net into the prop plane. I then fell backwards with the machine on top of me
with it still at full throttle. I knew I had to get it stopped or someone else
could get hurt. I was finally able to hit the kills switch and push the machine
off of me. The pain was not as bad as I would have thought it should be and I
was not sure how bad I was injured until I looked at my arm and I will not be
graphic but it was bad.

Everyone there reacted quickly and properly and got me an ambulance and assisted
my family.

Два российских планериста разбились во Франции

ПАРИЖ, 1 авг — РИА Новости, Владимир Добровольский. Двое россиян погибли в субботу на юге Франции — их планер развалился в воздухе на высоте 800 метров, сообщил РИА Новости генконсул РФ в Марселе Юрий Грибков.

Инцидент произошел рядом с городом Маноск (департамент Альпы Верхнего Прованса), окруженным холмами, высота которых превышает 700 метров.

«По данным, которые мы получили из полиции, сегодня двое российских граждан — Авдеев Игорь и Обухов Василий — совершали полет на моторном планере. На высоте 800 метров планер развалился, и наши планеристы упали с этой высоты», — сказал Грибков.

Как сообщил консульству директор французского клуба планеристов, собственником планера был Авдеев.

Консульство уже связалось с супругой Авдеева, которая вместе с мужем приехала на отдых из Москвы. «Что касается Обухова, информация уточняется», — отметил глава генконсульства.

«Генконсульство держит вопрос под пристальным вниманием. Будет оказано все необходимое содействие», — добавил собеседник агентства.

По его словам, причины аварии пока неизвестны, французская полиция проводит расследование.

Kuolemaan johtaneet paramoottori onnettomuudet

eivät ole valitettavasti vähentyneet vaikka X-Pilot sivustolla ei enään pidetä niistä lukua (vie valitettavan paljon voimavaroja listan oikeessa pitäminen), koska itseasiassa ne ovat valitettavasti lisäntyneet, joskin tietysti myös harrastajamäärät. Tässä seuraavassa videossa screen shotti “videokokouksesta” , jossa Jeff (tekee paljon asioita mova harrastusten puolesta U.S.A:ssa ) ja Michael pohtivat viimesintä onnettomuutta, jossa kokenut mova- pilotti Bill Crosby [R.I.P] menetti henkensä, kun hän teki triken kanssa wing-overeita.

Nämä onnettomuudet vetävät hieman hiljaiseksi, mutta niitä on toisaalta hyvä pohtia, jos niistä voisi oppia jotain ja näin säästäisi henkiä tulevaisuudessa.

Tekevälle sattuu ja yllättävän vähän on kuitenkin Dellille sattunut, mutta seuraavassa videossa Dell menettää halinnan veden päällä, kun hän piirtää vedenpintaan jalallaan 360.



Yllättävän nopsasti Dell pääsee valjaistaan pois ja katsokaas kuinka hyvin bensatankki kannattaa paramoottoria. Heh… tuo Dellin huuto heti krässin jälkeen oli kyllä “awesome” :)
